🌍 America is undergoing a tourism revolution! While the United States struggles to attract visitors, countries like Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay are literally exploding their visitor numbers.
Cheaper, culturally richer, and more open than ever, these countries attract travelers from around the world. In 2025, the trend is clear: the South is taking over… while Washington watches from afar.
Brazil Leading the Way: Numbers that Dazzle 🇧🇷
This is the star of tourism in 2025. In just three months, Brazil welcomed 3.74 million international visitors, which is +47.8% compared to last year. March alone accounted for 929,096 arrivals.
💰 The outcomes? $1.63 billion generated in one quarter, the highest since the 1970s. Brazil has found its magic formula:
- 🎉 International festivals and events that boost attractiveness
- 🌿 Highlighting Brazilian culture and nature
- ✈️ Facilitated air connections to major regions (Rio, Amazon, Salvador…)
Brazil has become an obvious choice for travelers in search of adventure AND authenticity.
Mexico Thriving… but Also Wobbling 🇲🇽
Another heavyweight: Mexico records 6.1 million air arrivals, with a growth of +3.5%. More and more Canadians are visiting the country… but not everything is rosy.
Some areas, like the Caribbean coast (Cancún & co), are seeing their reservations drop by 15%. Why?
- 💵 Stays have become too expensive
- 🔐 Security-related tensions
- 🏝️ Tourist saturation in popular areas
A warning sign to rethink tourism differently.
Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay: Rising Stars ✨
Meanwhile, other South American countries are making waves. Thanks to their preserved landscapes, highlighted local cultures, and eco-friendly commitment, they are booming:
| 🇨🇱 Country | 🌎 Visitors (Q1 2025) | 📈 Growth |
|---|---|---|
| Chile | 648,904 | +54.8% |
| Paraguay | — | +53% |
| Ecuador | — | +17% |
| Uruguay | 572,699 | +10.45% |
Destinations still little known, but which captivate travelers in search of genuine and sustainable experiences.
Canada: A Strong Start… Then a Drop ❄️
With 4.6 million international arrivals in January, Canada raised hopes for a great year. But in April, attendance drops by 15.2%.
Why this cold snap?
- ❄️ Glacial weather at the beginning of 2025
- ✈️ Airfare prices skyrocketing
- 🌍 Tourists attracted elsewhere, to “warmer” and cheaper destinations
Canada will need to reinvent itself to regain its status as a favorite.
The United States in Trouble: -14% Tourists in March 🇺🇸
This is a shock. With a decline of 14% in international arrivals, the United States is facing a tough moment. Projections indicate $12.5 billion in losses by the end of 2025.
Who are the culprits?
- 💰 Accommodation costs far too high
- ⚖️ Political tensions cooling visitor interest
- 🚫 Image of a country that has become less welcoming
The American machine struggles to restart in a post-COVID world where traveler priorities have changed.
The New Rules of the Tourism Game 🌐
Global tourism is changing its face. Today, what matters is:
- 🌿 Authenticity
- 🧭 Accessibility
- 💬 Cultural connection
- 🌱 An eco-responsible footprint
And on these points, South America scores points while other countries struggle to keep up.
Planning a trip in 2025? Here’s why to look South:
- 🔥 Destinations still affordable
- 💃 Vibrant culture and warm welcome
- 🗺️ Preserved nature and spectacular landscapes
- ✈️ Simplified air connections
Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, and Uruguay have never been more accessible.
And you, what do you choose: novelty or habit?
Spoiler: South America is ready to surprise you.
