Located between Staniel Cay and Big Major Cay, Thunderball Grotto is that famous natural cave where the James Bond movie “Thunderball” was filmed.
As soon as you enter, it’s like stepping into an underwater cathedral: limestone columns, hanging roots, magical light games… and water so clear that you’d think you were swimming in crystal.
Here, every kick of the fin brings you closer to fascinating biodiversity.
An abundance of tropical fish 🐟🌈
Get ready to encounter entire schools of brightly colored parrotfish, graceful surgeonfish, and the famous sergeant majors, striped in yellow and black.
The reef around the cave is a true coral garden. With each dive, a new surprise awaits you. Observing this ecosystem in action is magical.

If you want to experience it to the fullest, choose your gear wisely. Here’s what I recommend:
✅ Panoramic anti-fog mask (e.g. Cressi, Aqualung)
✅ Flexible snorkel with purge (e.g. Mares, Tusa)
✅ Light and comfortable fins (e.g. Scubapro, F One)
And if you feel cold, a wetsuit will not be too much to protect you and keep you comfortable in the water.
How to easily access it 🚤🌴
The easiest way: book a boat tour from Nassau or nearby islands like Staniel Cay.
The ride is a pleasure in itself, and often, the tour also includes Pig Beach (swimming pigs 🐷🏝️) and the Nurse Shark Sanctuary to see nurse sharks.
Once on site, you’ll need to swim a few meters to enter the cave. Currents may be present: stay cautious, especially if you’re a beginner or if you’re with children.
