Starting from May 1, 2025, Ryanair will change the way you travel. No more paper boarding passes! If you’re the type to print your ticket at the last minute, beware… it could cost you a lot. Very much.
You don’t want to miss this. Here’s everything you need to know (and do) to avoid getting caught out.
✈️ What’s really changing (and why it matters to you)
From May, paper boarding passes are a thing of the past. Everything goes through the Ryanair app. Official goal: saving 300 tons of paper per year. Unofficial? Reducing costs. Except that… if you don’t have a smartphone or you forget to check in online, Ryanair will charge you €65.50 at the airport. Ouch.
👉 So here’s a tip: prepare yourself now.
😰 Who’s going to suffer (and how to avoid it)
If you’re comfortable with your phone, you won’t see much difference. But if you’re on the “paper or nothing” team, you’ll need to change your habits. The same goes for elderly people or those who are not tech-savvy. And for Ryanair staff? Possible job cuts on the ground. Fewer humans, more tech.
Low-cost, yes, but not at the expense of your peace of mind.
💡 Tips to adapt without stress
Here are the 3 reflexes to have starting today:
- ✅ Download the Ryanair app and explore it (it’s more intuitive than you think)
- ✅ Plan your online check-in (at least 4 hours before the flight)
- ✅ Keep your phone charged with an external battery
A little extra: remember to print your QR code if you want a “hybrid” solution.
🛫 Want to travel without breaking the bank? Always compare
Even though Ryanair remains ultra-competitive, you have plenty of equally valid alternatives:

Let competition work for you, and most importantly: book early.
🧳 Your cabin bag: your best ally against fees
The choice of your suitcase is not a detail. Here are 3 tested and approved brands:
| Brand | Dimensions (cm) | Strong Points |
|---|---|---|
| CabinZero | 40 x 20 x 25 | Ultra-light and waterproof |
| Samsonite | 55 x 40 x 20 | Durable + smart compartments |
| Targus | 45 x 30 x 15 | Ideal for tech, practical and compact |
And always check the allowed dimensions before departing.
🔔 Stay alert for good deals
The social media of Ryanair are a goldmine: flash offers, promos, important news. Turn on notifications and also consider subscribing to their newsletter. Want flights for €10? That’s where to find them.
👀 And now?
Are you traveling soon?
✔️ Do you have the app?
✔️ Is your ticket booked?
✔️ Battery charged?
✔️ Suitcase within the allowed dimensions?
If you answered “no” to any of these questions… you know what you have to do 💡
